Struggle with creating the perfect smokey eye look? Get step by step guide and tips from our makeup pros.

Welcome to another post on Makeup Queens! Today, we will be putting a spotlight on a classic beauty trend, the smoky eye. The sultry smoky eye has been a staple in makeup for decades and is a go-to look for a glamorous night out. However, mastering it isn't as easy as it seems. In this step-by-step guide, we will delve into the art of creating the perfect smoky eye.

Gather Your Tools

Before we begin, let's ensure you have all the necessary tools. You will need an eyeshadow primer, at least three eyeshadow shades (light, medium and dark), eyeliner, mascara, and makeup brushes. Make sure the brushes are of good quality, as they greatly impact how your eyeshadow blends.

You can choose any color palette as per your preference, but for a traditional smoky eye, opt for grey, silver and black shades. Another popular choice is the brown smoky eye, which can be created using beige, brown and dark brown shadows.

Apply the eyeshadow primer before starting with the eyeshadow. Primer not only lets your eyeshadow adhere better but also ensures that it lasts all day or all night.

Layer Your Eyeshadow

Start your smoky eye by applying the lightest shade all over your lid. Then take your medium shade, and blend it in your crease to serve as a transition color. Ensure the transition is seamless, and there's no harsh line between the two shades.

Once that is done, take the darkest shade, and apply it on your outer V to add depth to your eyes. Blend well to create a seamless transition between the three colors. Remember, the key to a perfect smoky eye is blending.

For extra drama, you can also apply the darkest shade on your lower lash line, mimicking a thick liner. Make sure to connect it with the shadow on your upper eye to complete the smoky look.

Apply Eyeliner and Mascara

A smoky eye isn't complete without a dash of eyeliner and mascara. After applying your eyeshadow, line your upper lash line with a kohl pencil or liquid eyeliner. If you're going for a more sultry look, line your waterline too.

Once you have lined your eyes, it is time for mascara. Curl your lashes and apply two coats of volumizing mascara. If you want super dramatic lashes, you can even apply false lashes to take your smoky eye to the next level.

And with that, you have completed your smoky eye look. However, remember to complement it with a softer lip color so as not to distract from your eyes. Smoky eyes are bold, so let them be the star of the show!

Mastering the smoky eye technique might seem daunting, but with patience and practice, anyone can achieve it. Remember, the key to a perfect smoky eye lies in blending. So, don't be disheartened if you do not get it right in the first go. Keep practicing, and in no time, the smoky eye will be a part of your makeup arsenal. Stay beautiful!
